August Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month…so you know that means it’s time to join Marcia for runfessions! It’s a chance to cleanse your sweaty sole (like how I did that?) and start the new month fitness fresh! So let’s get to it, shall we?

My running mojo comes and goes like the wind lately, and I runfess that I’ve thought about phoning it in on my September half marathon…I won’t, but I’ve thought about it.

I’ve been really dragging lately, and I runfess that I was so tired on Wednesday that I  seriously toyed with the idea of just hiding in my car vs. driving to the gym (I did go to the gym).

I runfess that I’ve not been doing a great job focusing on my recovery. I’ve basically been squeezing in my runs or workouts and then rushing off to the rest of my day. I need to get back to being on consistent speaking terms with my foam roller, and make sure I’m refueling properly.

On the non-fitness front, I runfess that the start of school is less than two weeks away and I’m so not on top of my game. I may have pulled a late night the other day ordering textbooks so they’d arrive in time and we have no school supplies yet.

And speaking of back-to-school, I runfess that, while I’m totally unprepared, I’m secretly looking forward to the returning to a routine that the fall and school schedule brings.

There…now I feel better! Tell what are you run-fessing?

  1. I runfess that I haven’t been stretching quite as good as I should after my morning runs because I need to shower, eat and get my girls to daycare and me to work! That’s gotta change!

  2. I need to get back into a better routine. I don’t have small kids anymore, but my eldest son is getting married 3 weeks from tomorrow, and I have been focused on that and letting way to many things go!

  3. I think that the running mojo is highly linked to the weather. I’m sure your mojo will come back for good once Fall weather hits!

    Good for you for focusing on recovery! I think that it’s so easy to just do the workout and forget about stretching, foam rolling and getting in proper nutrition.

  4. I only think about foam rolling when I am nursing an injury. I need to work on doing it more consistently.

  5. Hiding in the car!? I love it lol. When it stops being fun it’s time for a change or a small break. Have you thought of just taking a few days off and doing something else for a change? That seems to work for me

  6. Oooh yeah don’t skimp on all those other non-running shenanigans that help us run better and keep us uninjured or you’ll end up like me. I runfess I hoarded spiral notebooks last year while they were on sale and kept them in the basement. Now that I have an excellent stash, the kids don’t need them because they do everything on a freaking iPad.

  7. Like you, I have not been very good about stretching or foam rolling, but I know my body needs it. Even with walking, the muscles area working big time and m=need the same TLC that I’d give it if I was running…..#intervention

  8. I run-fess that I have been not doing any speed work lately despite having a race coming up, but I don’t care! Just came off back to back marathons and I need a break!

  9. I runfess that my house was so quiet this morning that I literally didn’t know what to do with myself. It was AMAZING!!! Back to school is the BEST!!!

  10. My kids needed fewer and fewer school supplies as they went through high school, but the text books got more and more expensive – especially the science and math ones that my kids needed most for their majors. :-/

  13. God we went back to school two weeks ago and it’s sucks, especially since this was my first year as a school nurse and I so enjoyed the Summer!
