Weekly Wrap: Mother’s Day Edition

The days just continue to fly by….halfway through May and I feel like I can’t catch my breath! Am I the only one feeling this way?

Thankfully, it’s been a lovely, lazy Mother’s Day! Ma Nature decided to send a nor-easter our way (yes…in May!) so I was gifted with the rare Sunday with no lacrosse games…and no ability to do yard work ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s been a fun family hang-out day and soon we’ll be heading to out to dinner, but first a quick re-cap of the week.

Monday – Rest day & a trip to the Chiro
Tuesday – Strength work
Wednesday – 4-mile run
Thursday – Yoga & sports massage
Friday – Strength work
Saturday – 6-mile run
Sunday – Rest

The piriformis was on the cranky side this week, so there was a little less running, and more attention to strength work and babying the muscle.

The runs I did have were fairly decent. I started using a metronome app – a suggestion from the Chi Running instructor, and while on the one hand, the beeping does take a little getting used to, on the other side there is something very meditative about it. For the next week or two, I’m going to try to use the metronome for most of my runs so I can laser in on my cadence.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms!

I’m, of course, linking up with Holly and Tricia for the #WeeklyWrap. Be sure to stop by and visit both of these great ladies and check out some of the other bloggers!ย

  1. I’m glad that you had a low-key and awesome Mother’s Day!

Sorry that your piriformis was acting up this week ๐Ÿ™ Good job on listening to your body and cutting down the miles. I hope that your sports massage was helpful!

  2. I’ve heard from other runners how much they like the metronome app. I use my music like that–most of my songs have a cadence that matches my pace. It helps a lot. I’ll be interested to hear how you like the metronome.

    • I love running with music, but at the suggestion of the Chi coach, I’m going to try to go without for a bit. Eventually, I’m going to need to find tunes that match the cadence.

  3. Sorry for the ugly weather but at least it made your day less busy, right?
I too can not believe how fast May is going!

  4. Sometimes a rainy day gives you much needed down time! Interesting on the app – what cadence do you set it to?

  5. There’s a music app that uses beats like a metronome. I think it’s Spring?? Sorry the piriformis was angry. I am right there with you with MAYhem.

  6. I’m interested in learning more about your running with a metronome. Chi Running seems to work great for a lot of people!

Glad you got a break from lacrosse and the yard, lol!

  7. I have often wondered what purpose the piriformis REALLY serves (other than to cause agony for runners). That said, mine has been behaving this training cycle (knocking on wood). Was it nice having a real day off? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Glad you had a nice and relaxed Mother’s Day. Yes I can’t seem to keep up with everything going on this month! Hope you have a great week!

  9. That app sounds interesting. I’ll have to give that a shot.

  10. Gah, piriformis! It’s the worst. Thankfully I haven’t had an issue in a while but I can relate.

  11. I used a metronome a few years back after an injury. I think it does help you to become more aware of your steps. Although I do agree it’s annoying

  12. Great week of workouts! I’m very interested in the metronome app.

  13. I tried a metronome, but could never keep with it. My heart rate would spike if I tried the high cadence. But everyone I know loves it.

    • The Chi Running instructor suggested starting at 170 and increasing slowly. I know they say 180 is ideal but I can’t imagine getting there.

  14. May is zipping along! Although you had bad weather you didn’t have a bad time- so yay! to Mother’s day! That app sounds cool- I have used one of those things since my marching band days ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Time is definitely flying by! Although I love this time of year, I do wish time would slow down just a tad so that I can fully enjoy everything. Hope you had a great Mother’s Day!

  16. I’m glad you enjoyed your Mother’s Day. My left hip and glute are both cranky as we speak. Sigh. It’s always something… I may be going for some bodywork this week myself. I think I’ll try the metronome app. Thanks for the suggestion.

  17. I’m intrigued by this metronome app. I’ve noticed that I slow down to slower songs and speed up with fast songs… problem is that most of my music is on the slower side. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yay for a slow paced Sunday …especially on Mother’s Day!
