Thursday Thoughts – Volunteering and other stuff

A few random thoughts this morning….

bostonmarathon logo… I was so excited to open my email yesterday and find out that not only will I be returning as a Boston Marathon volunteer again this year, but I got a finish line assignment! I love volunteering at this race and cannot wait for an up-close and personal view of those elites crossing the finish line!

… speaking of the Marathon…there’s a film being made here in Boston about the bombing and they recently put out a casting call to runners for the marathon scenes.  Um…no thanks to that. I could not imagine wanting to re-live that day in any way…could you?

… and from the department of “gym crazies”… there’s a guy who’s been coming to my gym and working out in jeans…I kid you not! I’m all for squeezing a workout in when you can, but seriously how uncomfortable must that be!?! What is it about gyms that bring out the…er…more interesting behavior in people?

Tell me something random. Do you think you could be an extra in that movie?

  1. Oh that’s so exciting! I’d love to be at the finish line in Boston and see all those runners crossing it! That’s really awesome 🙂 And I can’t even stand wearing jeans on a day to day basis, so I can’t imagine trying to work out in them. Eeeugh.

  2. That’s exciting that you got a finish line assignment! I volunteered at a local half marathon last year and handed out medals at the finish line. It was definitely a great place to be assigned. As far as funny work out clothes, I saw a guy running on a trail a couple weeks ago in a polo shirt and khaki shorts, but also wearing calf sleeves, which kind of implies he should have known better?

  3. Finish line assignment sounds fun, I would like to do that one day for a marathon…..although I think I would cry (out of happiness) when others finish!

  4. I’ve seen some odd outfits at the gym too! Did not know you had to apply to help out at Boston but that sounds like a great experience-fun! No I would not want to be an extra in that film either

    • The application process for the Marathon is crazy competitive – I got an assignment two years ago but didn’t get one last year. Looking forward to going back!

  5. Yay for volunteers! I used to work in non-profit events and I can definitely say that volunteers are the HEART and SOUL of every single event.

  6. One of good friends is also volunteering and I can only imagine how fun and enjoyable that will be. Good luck and have a great time!

  7. Oh my gosh the finish line would be such a cool place to volunteer.

  8. I have been an extra in a movie before….way back in my 20s. I was visiting my brother in LA and he had a connection or something.
I guess since I was not in Boston for the bombing, I actually could be an extra for it but I could see also how for those really close to it, it would be a bit tough.

    Awesome volunteer assignment!!! How cool!!

Let’s see my random…..I like cheese and strawberry jelly sandwiches.

    • I’ll be interested to see how this casting call goes – I’m sure some people will show up…just a little too close to home for me.

Ok so I have to ask,how did you ever come to put cheese and strawberry jelly together?! 🙂

  9. Wow! SO exciting to have a finish line spot in Boston! I think I’d rather volunteer there than run it at this point. Haha! Yeah I wouldn’t be auditioning for a spot in anything reliving that horror. No way.
