Trying to Settle In

Not going to lie, these first two weeks of this new year have definitely kept me on my toes. When I got to this weekend, I decided that this is a perfect time to hit the reset button and see if I can finally settle into a routine. But, before I look ahead, here’s a quick peek at the week that was.

Trying to Settle In

Monday — 1.5-mile walk, Lower Body Strength & Core.
Tuesday — 2-mile walk otherwise rest
Wednesday — 3 miles.
Thursday — Upper Body Strength and 1-mile walk. I decided to return to Robin’s Advanced 3-Day Split Strength Program on the Peloton app. Day 1 targeted chest, shoulders, and triceps.

Friday — 30 min interval run
Saturday — 2-mile walk and Day 2 of the Split focusing on legs and core.
Sunday — 4 miles

To give my runs some structure this week I started following Team Wilpers Half Marathon Challenge. The plan is designed to get runners prepped for their Spring races, and while I don’t have a Spring half on my calendar, I’m going to use this training plan to help smartly guide my mileage build-up, while getting me out of my “easy runs all the time” rut.

Run Happy Team Year 2!

A highlight of the week was being able to announce my return to Brooks Running’s Run Happy Team! I make no secret of my love of this brand and RHT is a great community of runners to be a part of.

  1. Yay welcome back to Brooks! I am going to do Robin’s split again this week. She is tough! I like the format. I hope you like the Wilpers training plan too. I am still hoping you get into CB and it will be great training for you! Have a good one

  2. I think that following the Matt Wilpers plan is a great idea. I’ve seen it work for some of the other runners who’ve used it! I’m looking forward to following your progress! And yay for another year on the Run Happy Team! We’re going to have a great year!

    • So glad we’re back for another year with RHT! It’s been a while since I’ve followed a training plan – looking forward to seeing how the Wilpers plan goes.

  3. Congrats on your second year of running with the Brooks Run Happy Team!

  4. I have Cherry Blossom April 2nd, and the Drake 13,1 April 23. I haven’t put an official training plan in place yet, but the timing of CB is perfect with a decent “taper” before the other race. I hope this next week gives you the reset you’re looking for 😉

  5. I agree, the start to this year has been a busy one. I’m hoping the second half of the month will be a little calmer. Sounds like you had a good week of workouts though, with a good plan for your strength work and running. Here’s to calm weeks ahead!

  6. Sounds like the second week of the year went pretty well for you! I haven’t tried any of the split strength programs yet but I’m considering trying it out since I am focusing more on strength training this year.

  7. Congratulations on Brooks!

Yes, this is what I’m enjoying the most even if it’s simultaneously stressing me out — how do I find a 3 minute hill!

  8. Yay on the Brooks team! Robin’s is the only split I’ve done — I just did the core/leg day today because I like it.

I’m actually impressed you started a new program on a Thursday. I’m always a “next week I’ll …” kind of person.

  9. That half marathon running plan sounds like a good idea. I hope you share it on the blog, I’ll be interested to read more about it.

  10. Congrats on your return to the Brooks team. That’s so fun! I love their clothing but as much as I try the shoes just don’t work for me. Sigh. All the best with the MW plan!

  11. Congrats on the Brooks gig again! It’s always fun for me to get a new training plan and get into a routine. I’m not going to lie, the race is not the most exciting part of the plan for me! I love checking off the workouts on the calendar the most. Hope you are back on track and finding your balance!

  12. Congrats on continuing with the Brooks team.

Great idea on training. It’s a good way to stay in half shape. Maybe you will run one in the fall.

  13. Congrats on being back on the team! You had a great week of workouts. Now I am curious about the split strength programs.

  14. Many dates on the running calendar haven’t firmed up yet so I’ve been using a Half Marathon Training plan to keep me focused and so I’m ready when the dates are announced. But what I love is that my running has structure. Last year, I tried to run without structure, and I realise that just doesn’t work for me!

Congrats on being part of the Run Happy Team! My favourite brand of shoes!
