New Year’s Eve Runfessions

Happy Friday and welcome to the final 2021 edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJennZenaida, and me!

And what better way to close out this crazy year than with one more trip to the Runfessional? I’m linking up with Marcia to share a Runfession or two…so let’s get started.

New Year’s Eve Runfessions

Weather driven vs. Schedule creep — Mother Nature has thrown a little bit of everything at us and it’s only December! I runfess that I have been letting the weather app dictate when I head out for my runs. Of late I have not been able to drag myself out of bed to run in the cold, dark morning when I can snag a sunny run in the 40s/50s in the mid-afternoon.

On the other hand, I runfess that I so much prefer to workout in the morning that way I know I’m guaranteed to get it done before schedule creep takes over. The dilemma is real.

Still no 2022 goals yet — As most of you know who have been around here for a bit, I’m a big goal-setter. And, yet, I runfess that here we are on the last day of the year and I’m still trying to decide on some fitness goals for 2022. I’ve been noodling around some ideas but still nothing definite. Honestly, I never set any big goals for 2021 – just smaller monthly goals, which seem to work out just fine…so who knows maybe that’s the way to go for 2022.

Time for another sugar detox — I runfess that I have been fully enjoying all the holiday foods and cocktails – no regrets. But I am planning for a mini detox in January to help reset things.

Any runfessions to share? Anyone else dealing with crazy weather? Have you set any 2022 goals yet?

  1. We’ve been having a lot of snow this week, but it’s been warm enough to melt most of it. I’m pretty sure that’s going to change this weekend–a big storm is coming. I’ll have to make weather adjustments in my schedule too.

No goals yet either. I’m just going to see how things unfold…

  2. I think a lot of us are avoiding goal setting because so much is out of our hands right now.

I feel very lucky that I can run when I want, although even so I do have time constraints. So it’s often not when I want, but much later in the Winter. Which can be really nice, right?

I do my Yoga first thing in the morning so I do get some movement in.

  3. Our weather is crazy around here this week too. I bought a ton of winter running gear so I kind of hope I get to use it. I do get off schedule w my eating as well this time of the year and I find it comforting to return to my normal schedule. I am not for doing anything crazy but just being more mindful and tracking.

  4. Hah! I did a year-end check in on the scale today. Nothing too shocking, but there is room for improvement in my habits.

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone for a run after breakfast (not counting races). I find it so much harder to carve out the time later.

I haven’t sent any goals for 2022, but I’m looking forward to a new year!

  5. I’m with you. I feel much better if I run before work… but when it’s raining or 10 degrees, I skip it and run later.

I have goals but they are similar to last year… is that cheating?

  6. I feel you on the waiting for it to warm up a bit before heading out. Then something gets in the way and I don’t get out. Ugh. We’re bracing for our third and largest snow event of the week so I’m kind of scrambling because I suspect we’ll be inside all day tomorrow. Happy New Year Michelle!

  7. My eating has been jacked this week, so I’m due for a reset after tomorrow. Not any specific goals, yet, for 2022…I have some contemplating on deck , in the next week, so figure that out. Happy 2022!

  8. I’m with you on monthly goals- I might even go week by week for the month of January.
So my son and I were both sick over Christmas and he lost NINE POUNDS. He’s actually really mad because he’s been trying to gain weight. Now he’s eating everything in sight to make up for it. Must be nice to be a teenage boy!

  9. I didn’t set any goals for 2021 either, but I’m trying to figure shit out for 2022. I do much better when I’m striving for something. And I’ll be joining you on that sugar detox. I’ve all about cookies all the time lately.

  10. I can’t believe it’s been so mild this December – I have definitely been aiming to run on the warmer days, enjoying it while it lasts!

I don’t have any specific goals either. I definitely want to do more strength training and stick to shorter distance races.

  11. I am all about the morning workout. I just like to get it done and not have to worry about anything for the rest of my day.

  12. I do not blame you for waiting to wait to do your run. But I agree that sometimes something gets in the way. I am a morning runner and luckily haven’t had to postpone my run too much.

  13. If I don’t run in the morning then I don’t run.
I don’t have any specific goals but my focus is on strength and mobility.
    Happy New Year!
