Guest Hosting the Weekly Wrap!

Happy Sunday and welcome to the Weekly Wrap!

I am so excited to be this week’s guest host while Holly and Tricia enjoy some time off from hosting duties this summer. Weekly Wrap brings together such a great group of active women supporting each other, and I am honored to be guest hosting.

If you’ve never joined the Weekly Wrap, I encourage you to dive right in! The rules are pretty simple. Visit and comment on as many blogs as you can, including the host blog. Please don’t just link and leave – let’s support each other! It’s a great way to discover new blogs and make new friends!

If you were here for my last Wrap, then you may remember I skipped last week’s long run, as my lack of quality sleep had left me totally drained. Well, what I didn’t share was that my left ankle was feeling super tight and my upper calf was sore, and I think even if I’d had the best of sleep the ankle would have kept me from hitting the road.

So, how did this week shake out?

Monday: I wasn’t taking any chances with the ankle, so I headed to my PT/chiro. The verdict? Ankle immobility was affecting my fibula head – I’ve been here before and had to fess up to lagging on any of my ankle exercises. So you can guess what my homework was!

Tuesday: After checking in with my RC coaches, we were in agreement to skip the speed work and cross train instead. So, I made a long-overdue return to my gym and hit the Arc Trainer. 40 minutes of cross-training done!

Wednesday: Yoga  – keeping to this month’s goal of at least one weekly session.

Thursday: Strength day including ankle work.

Friday: I was so hoping to run, and while the ankle felt better, it didn’t feel great. Back to the Arc Trainer I went for another round of cross-training, followed by foam rolling and more ankle work.

By the way, if you missed my post about the benefits of the Arc Trainer, you can read it here.

Saturday: Rest day filled with shopping and errands, and yes, more ankle work (are you sensing a theme?)

Sunday:  5-mile run! Babying my ankle all week paid off with a glorious morning run. OK – it was ridiculously humid, but I was running so I didn’t care. My pace was solid, and best of all the ankle stayed quiet until the last half mile – I’m calling that a win! Nice to end the week on a high note.

This week also brought some fun stuff in the mail, including these beauties:

One of my birthday presents from my hubby – Saucony Zealot 3

And, the August StrideBox arrived!

I have really been enjoying these StrideBoxes! It’s been a great way to discover some new products. This month’s box includes items from Bakery on Main, Eboost, Hungry Buddha, Vital 4U, Zealios, No Sweat, and Gear Well – all of which are new to me. Can’t wait to try them all! Huge thanks to the nice folks at StrideBox for the goodies.

So that’s my week, and now I’m off to enjoy some lazing on the deck 🙂

  4. I hope that the ankle continues to cooperate! It’s really hard to keep up with those prehab exercises when everything feels good.

I’d be afraid of trying Stridebox because then I’d want to buy all.the.things!

  5. Sounds like a great week, girl! Even with babying your ankle. 🙂 Sometimes we just gotta, right? I’m also trying to keep to one yoga session per week and my body always loves it, but sometimes it’s hard to force myself to get it done!

  7. Yay for a great run!!! I’m usually pretty good at scaling back if I’m having a funky injury…but there are times when I don’t scale back enough. Then when I finally respect the “issue,” I’m usually blessed with a great run ….duh, right? LOL 😉

  9. Bummer on the ankle but it sounds like the exercises really help — when you do them. 😉 New shoes are always a great thing. Hope you get to put lots of healthy miles into them.

  11. With my recent injury I’ve come to really appreciate mobility. My My sore ankle is so much less mobile than the other but feels SO much better after the doc works on it. I learned my lesson! Great week for you!

  15. I’m glad to hear that your ankle is better! I had ankle issues too last week. I thought it was better on Saturday, went for a run and paid for it – it hurts worse now. Gah!! Trying not to freak out too much about it but I’m just getting over another injury. Ugh!

  16. Sounds like a great week. Glad that ankle is finally cooperating!

    Haven’t tried those subscriptions…yet.

  18. Glad your ankle got better. I’ve been going back to my ankle PT exercises lately – just to keep at it and keep them happy! Great job staying active!

  19. Ugh, it isn’t it so frustrating when the PT is right?! Just kidding of course – I’ve been there before though. It’s amazing that the exercises they give us work so well that we then think we don’t need to do them anymore, right?! Yay for an awesome long run!

  20. Thanks Michelle for taking over this week! For me, the hardest part is not putting in the miles and what I need to do it is listening to my body and giving it rest! So kudos to you for doing just that. You’ll be back with your training in no time! Keep up with those ankle exercises. I don’t do the preventive work like I should!

  22. Thank you for hosting this week! I love our Weekly Wrap crew <3 It's very wise of you to be babying your ankle rather than pushing through the pain. Way to train for longevity rather than doing more damage!

  23. Are you wearing a brace or anything on your ankle when you do your runs? An ankle injury is something I’ve never had, knock on wood..lol. I hope it heals up for good soon.

  24. Love those Zealots!

I’m sorry your ankle is still giving you grief. I hope you can get a handle on it and get things back on track. Hang in there and keep on recovering!

  25. I am glad you got some solid cross training in while resting the ankle. I was doing my own resting last week because my calf was getting very fickle. It is not always easy to back off when you need to. Kudos to you for making the right choices.
New shoes were a nice motivating reward 🙂
The coconut chips are really good!

  26. So glad you took the time to check out your ankle and not overwork it…and it all paid off in that late-week glorious run! Here’s hoping that ankle continues to heal.

  27. Hope your ankle feels better soon!
My ankles are very unstable and fickle. I kept rolling one over and over 2 years ago during my 70.3 training. Had to go to PT and ankle and hip exercises to strengthen all of it.

  29. I think it’s awesome that you have a yoga day! I really need to do that, too. What a great idea.

  30. Yay, glad the ankle was good for your run at the end of the week! It sounds like you did exactly the right things to help it along.

  31. Great week of workouts even with that cranky ankle. Read your post about the arc trainers… I had noticed them in my gym, will have to give them a go on my next cross training day.

  32. Love your new shoes. I’m a big Saucony fan. Great job cross training this week and letting your ankle rest. I am really struggling to add something to my routine besides running. I know that when I cross train I feel so much better. Have a great week!

  33. Isn’t it so great to see the rewards of babying a sore spot (ankle, in your case) with the return of a glorious run?! I love that. Looks like some pretty fun mail, too. 🙂

  34. Thank you so much Michelle for being our guest host this week! I hope you enjoyed it and found a few new connections too. You made the right decision by letting that ankle rest for a few days. That is so hard to do! I’ve heard great things about Stride Box. I may have to try it!

  35. I’ve never used an arc trainer, but it seems like a good lower impact workout. I have an elliptical at home, which is similar, so that’s what I use when I need the lower impact.
