2014 Race Calendar Taking Shape

While not complete yet, my 2014 race calendar is starting to take shape. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

Super Sunday 5 Miler (2/2)

Winter Warlock 10K or Frozen Pilgrim 10K (2/16)

Black Cat 10 Miler (3/1)

B.A.A. 5K (4/19)

Newport 10 Miler (4/27)

Boston’s Run to Remember 5 Miler (5/25)

Runner’s World Heartbreak Half Marathon (6/8)

Boston 13.1 (9/14) or Newport Half Marathon (10/12)

Tufts 10K (10/13) – if I don’t run the Newport Half

Canton Fall Classic (10/26)

Richmond Half Marathon (11/15) or Philadelphia Half Marathon (11/23)

This would be potentially 11 races towards my #14in2014 goal. I think I’d like to add the BAA 10K again – it was warmer than I would have liked but there’s the possibility that they’re going to move this race from the end of June…the question is when?

I’m happy to have a couple of 10 milers planned, and I’ve never done a 5 mile race so it will be fun to do a new distance! Another big change for the upcoming year is no spring “goal” half marathon. While the Runner’s World Heartbreak Half in June should be a lot of fun, I know those Newton hills all too well – I will not be looking for a PR. Instead I’ll be looking to shave some time off my 10-mile time at Newport. The goal half marathon will wait until the fall – decision on which race to come later.

Have you picked your 2014 races?

  1. Not yet but I will before the new year! Too many fun races to choose from and as much as I would like to I can’t run them all 🙂

  2. Looks great! You’re going to be busy 🙂
    Have fun,
    Sami

  3. Wow your schedule is quite well developed already! I have the biggest races planned (NYCM, Flying Pig, Soldier Fiend 10, RnR Denver) but haven’t filled in with any smaller stuff yet.
The Newton hills make me wistful…good, hard times!

  4. Superb Schedule you have made 🙂

  5. Great list!!

I wish I could be that organized with my races. I usually have one or two planned and the rest just get added as I go.

  6. I’ve picked two A races – Calgary Marathon and Lost Souls 50K. I would like to run a few shorter races in between. I work some weekends so it’s challenging to make it all work.

Looks like you are focused for 2014! Happy holidays!

  7. You’ve got some really fun ones lined up. I love 10-milers; actually, 5-milers, too. Nothing like NOT having a point something at the end to face!

  8. I’m planning to take it easy, but my A goal would be to do the Philly Half Marathon in 2014. If you do it, I’d love to meet! I may do some 5K’s as well, depending on my progress!

  9. Good batch of races! I included the BAA distance medley in mine for this year. Hoping to get in!

  10. Love your races. I’m jealous of all the Boston on there… but I guess it’s the same with all the SF races on mine. Run local, right?

Hope 2014 is filled with miles and miles of success.

  11. Philly is one of my favorite races!!! totally do it!! 🙂 I want to do Tufts at some point

  12. Richmond was my first marathon — it’s an amazing race and I vote you do Richmond — especially since you’ve done Philly! 🙂

  13. My race schedule isn’t mapped out on paper but I have my eye on several races! Including the RW half! Have to wait until after my March marathon to fill out the rest of the list though.

  14. Michelle, I was especially excited to see that you have the Newport 10 Miler and/or the Newport Marathon on your schedule. I completed the United Healthcare Triple Crown last year and ran the Newport Half the past two years with my best friend from college (we went to Salve in Newport). I’m thinking about making the Newport marathon my first 26.2 ever. I want to complete my first marathon in 2014…but am not sure yet which/where it will be. I like to stay local, too, so your list helps a lot! I just need to figure out my work schedule and discuss with Steph (my friend from college, who will be running with me) before I make my final decision.

  15. I just swapped out my 2013 race list for my 2014 race list on my blog. I thought I had a lot lined up, but you are ahead of me!

  16. I’m considering doing the HH Half. Just not too sure about it.
